Minnesotans: Vote No on the Clean Water Amendment

Really quick:

Minnesotans, I urge you to vote no against the Clean Water Amendment.  I know it sounds like something we should be for, but the process is far too distorted.  This is something the legistature should take up, and it’s only by their failing that we now have this Constitutional Amendment.  The Constitution is not for what should be acts of the legislature, but rather for very serious issues, particularly those involving human rights.  It should not be used for what’s essentially just a referendum.  Not only does it give the legislators even more of an excuse not to do their jobs in the future, but it also ties their hands should we need to change it.  If it passes, the only way to undo it is by another Constitutional Amendment.  It’s a seriously problematic way to go about governing ourselves.

And this is coming from a liberal.

Cheers,
Charlie

Happy Supreme Court Day!

Well, not as happy as a few years ago…

A Note on the Magic Number Updates on This Site (part 2)

I’ll be heading off to the Obama victory event in just a few minutes, and as such will not be updating the Magic Number until tomorrow (if there’s even a reason to do it tomorrow).  Until then, you can keep track of the number by going to http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/.  And there does appear to be a slew of supers on deck.

Update: 10 Edwards delegates are to be added to Obama’s count too, in addition to a number of supers.

Obama ’08!

Cheers,
Charlie

A Note on the Magic Number Updates on This Site

Because I will be attending Obama’s victory celebration tonight at the Xcel Center in St. Paul, beginning at about 4:00 p.m. CT or so the Magic Number on this site won’t update according to today’s results until tomorrow morning.

Of course, I pretty much expect it to reach zero by the end of the day.

Charlie

Geraldine Ferraro: Off The Rails Even Before Today

As for the whole Geraldine Ferraro stuff, anyone who listened to NPR’s Talk of the Nation last Wednesday already knew that she has seriously gone off the rails.  If you want to listen to it, and I promise you it will hurt, it’s towards the end of the show.  Even the host, the usually unflappable Neal Conan, had no idea what do with her.

Cheers,
Charlie
